Celebrating Oikocredit's 45 years with our Canadian network

Oikocredit celebrated its 45th anniversary on November 4, 2020. 

Today our financial inclusion partners reach 38.2 million people, and our agricultural partners reach 557,000 farmers. In this short video, we look back to our founders’ vision and future work together, to thank our thousands of investors, partners, volunteers and staff.

Oikocredit invests in Brazilian fintech BizCapital

BizCapital, a digital lending platform for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Brazil, has completed a USD 15 million Series B funding round. Oikocredit has acquired a minority stake in the company. “In addition to continuing to help SMEs with credit, we look forward to expanding our financial services offering, and developing new products for entrepreneurs”, added Francisco Ferreira, CEO and cofounder of BizCapital.

Canadian Retail Investors Seek Diversity & Inclusion in their Portfolios, Want Advisors to Offer Responsible Investments

The 2020 Responsible Investment Association (RIA) Investor Opinion Survey showed that the majority of Canadians want to invest in impact. Here are some highlights from the report:

  • 75% of respondents would like their financial services provider to inform them about responsible investment options
  • 73% of respondents would like a portion of their portfolio to be invested in organizations providing opportunities for the advancement of women and diverse groups
  • 72% want their fund manager to engage with Canadian corporations to encourage more diversity in leadership

Mirjam ‘t Lam joins Oikocredit as Director of Finance & Risk

 

Welcome, Mirjam! She joins Oikocredit from African investment company Arise, where she spent nearly four years as Chief Financial Risk Officer and played a leading role in the creation of the organisation.

Thos Gieskes, Managing Director of Oikocredit, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Mirjam to Oikocredit. Her experience in development finance across the globe will be highly valuable to us.”
