Canada buoyed by virtual conference with international Oikocredit Support Associations

Oikocredit winter meeting on March 12-13, 2021. Read the key take-aways.

Even now with most of our work on line, it takes an exceptional team to run a virtual conference where you feel you are sitting on a sofa talking to the speakers. This is exactly what the Oikocredit Support Associations (SA) who organized the March 12-13 Oikocredit Winter Meeting succeeded in doing. During the Zoom ‘sofa sessions’ one Zoom participant from an SA, virtually sitting next to the Oikocredit Management Board (MB) speaker, could engage in a conversation undistracted until the SA participant gave up their seat on the sofa to someone else.

When not in the informal ‘sofa’ and networking sessions, SAs attending the Winter Meeting rolled up their sleeves and discussed key projects which will shape Oikocredit’s work through this pandemic period and beyond. Projects discussed included:

  • Review of capital-raising inflow model to assure it’s ‘future proof’ and responsive to the changing market;

  • Update on Oikocredit 2022-2026 Purpose-Driven Strategy and the plan to test concepts and obtain feedback from our partners in Latin America, Africa and Asia;

  • Rollout of marketing plan to communicate Oikocredit values and impact investing outcomes;

Having represented Oikocredit Canada at the Winter Meeting I left feeling there is an international team that is dedicated to fulfilling Oikocredit’s mission -- to improve the quality of life of low-income people in a sustainable way. Bringing people together at the Winter Meeting to sit on a virtual sofa is just one example of Oikocredit’s agility in learning and growing in these challenging times.
